Studies in law, economics and finance at the Universities of Bern (Switzerland), Rochester and Chicago (USA); part-time lecturing in Money and Banking and Finance at California State University Los Angeles (USA).
Beat Gerber started his professional career at the Swiss National Bank as a research officer in Bern and Zurich. Thereafter, he worked for a financial institution in Switzerland and the USA.
In 1986 he joined the former Union Bank of Switzerland in New York and moved to UBS Zurich in 1987, where he was responsible for the design and formation of a Professional Money Management unit. In 1989 he became Head of Asset Allocation and Portfolio Management.
During that time, Beat Gerber pioneered and introduced the CFA Program in Switzerland. In this capacity he formed links with Nobel laureate William F. Sharpe from Stanford University to act as strategic Advisor, and with BARRA, a US firm and pioneer in Risk Management.
After leading the development of international investment business, Beat Gerber joined the Swiss Institutional Business, which he headed up until the end of 2008. His entrepreneurial spirit and business acumen, together with his deep client understanding, made it possible for UBS to acquire over CHF 30 billion in net new money over this period.
In 2009 Beat Gerber founded BGF AG in Switzerland and in 2013 BGC Inc. in United Arab Emirats, where he acts as investor and financial advisor. In this capacity he continues to discuss ideas and interests with William F. Sharpe, founder of Financial Engines, a renowned independent investment services company in Palo Alto (USA).
